Hellooooo! Good morning!

As I’m writing this blog post,  half of the city is still asleep and getting their extra ZzzZz’s.  Yep, I’m a morning person.  On weekdays, I have to wake up at 6:30am to do some errands and drive to my work.  My day always starts early to the point that even on weekends, I find it hard to sleep in.   I can’t bring myself to wake up at noon because it makes me feel like I’ve missed half of the day.

Working in the morning requires a looooot of energy (just think of that transition from that pseudo-mummified state while wrapped in endless bed sheets to becoming an excited electron in a matter of minutes—that needs a lot of boost!)

Speaking of energy, I actually get mine from breakfast.  People used to joke that people who are on an extreme diet are probably moody because they’re hungry.  Apparently, there’s some scientific evidence that via a complicated series of molecular reactions, neurological responses, and intricate biological processes, this is the transformation that happens:

Skip Breakfast → Become Hungry  → Get Angry → Go HAngry → Turn into a Zombie → Look for Brains

Kidding of course! The scientists would have protested at my baseless inflated theory. :P   Here’s a more respectable evidence.   People think that by skipping breakfast, they have saved themselves from X calories not knowing that they just set themselves up perfectly for some eating mooooore later in the day! Yikes!

It always feels good to have breakfast.  It makes you feel fueled ready to sing, ♩♪Hooray for today! ♫♬” For one, the word’s etymology suggests that we’re breaking the fasting that our body has been going through while we were asleep.

My favorite breakfast food is McDonald’s 2pc Hotcakes with Sausage but there are days when I crave for a Big Breakfast and a yummy cup of Hot Chocolate or McCafe Premium Roast Coffee and Hash Browns when I’m rushing! :)

:)

Hope this post gets you craving for breakfast already!

So, what are your favorite breakfast meals? :)

For this post, we collaborated with Richard Co of Tales from the Tummy, a must-read food blog especially if you’re the type who loves to explore places to eat! :)  From the first crack at the newest resto’s to travel adventures and out-of-the-country foodtrips, you’ll find it in his oozing with food porn website ;)

Breakfast with Tipsy & Ponggo (Bacon, Eggs & Pancakes)

We were inspired by the fact that his blog is about photos of food and instead of giving you the usual cartoons, we created some props and shot them with our plushies!  I didn’t know playing with clay was actually fun & therapeutic (which is pretty much always my excuse to indulge in all the time consuming things that make me happy!)  I had a crazy week with deadlines every single day…and night (or sometimes two in a night!).  The week ended with a cold threatening to stop me from enjoying my weekend although luckily it didn’t.   So, in the efforts to regain my sanity and happiness back, I went for this style of blog post. I actually feel guilty that I’m enjoying the process. *Beads of sweat are rolling down my forehead as I think about my looming deadlines.*

Except for our recent trip, the last time I played with clay was when I was in grade school.  I used to have Play Doh.  I had punchers and tools that make purple spaghetti :P  I had a bottle of blue & red clay and as a desperate attempt to come up with pasta, I mixed them.  That was the most unappetizing shade of purple I ever produced!
Anyhooz, going back to more palatable things, without further ado, here are the five good things about breakfast:

1)      Bacon, Eggs and the Butter that comes with your Pancake – O yeah!  There’s nothing like a good dose of cholesterol in the morning! (Extra bars servings of butter and egg yolks, anyone?) Well, of course egg has its nutritional benefits.  If you’re a serious health buff, please spare us from the debate of whether or not eggs are healthy.  If you still haven’t figured out, this was meant to be a sarcastic blog post ;)

Ponggo with his Breakfast with Split Screen of Bacon Eggs & Pancake

2) Fruits – Get the vitamin C and fiber that you need!  Fiber is really good for the tummy and yes, the state of your digestive system will definitely affect your mood.   A constipated tummy equals a constipated mind ;)  You can quote us on that.

Fruits with Tipsy & Ponggo in the Background

Here’s more fruit porn.  I’m so sorry. I just had to take more photos of this.  I upcycled a grocery paper bag and weaved a little native fruit basket.  It felt a bit nostalgic because I suddenly realized, weaving with paper was our first ever project in grade one! :P And yes, I just had to take that top view angle because I wanted to showcase the tiny leaves.  I actually wonder if fondant also has the same properties as clay? Hmm…Hmm…..

Fruits Upclose: Apples, Oranges, Pears

More fruits!  As Barney once said, “If you want something crunchy, if you want something sweet, fruits and vegetables are always fun to eat!”  Puzzled?  No.  That’s not the le-ge-hen-da-ha-ry Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother, that was Barney the purple dinosaur!

Tipsy & Ponggo with Coffee, Tea and Coffee Beans

3. Coffee or Tea – a double dose of caffeine to jolt your system!  It’s just funny that Ponggo didn’t want to lend me his coffee beans last night so I stole them from our freezer this morning while he was still asleep and voila, I now have screaming evidence of my petty crime.  Well, Ponggo, if you’re reading this, no coffee beans were harmed in the making of this post ;)  Yes, that’s just our instant coffee right there.  Nope.  Not your precious brown powder ;) Yes, I still don’t know how to operate our coffee grinder.

Milk & Cereal   4. Cereal & Milk - If you’re looking for a low-fat, healthy diet, cereal’s always good (easy on the full cream milk and sugar though) ;)

Milk & Cereal with Tipsy

I love having milk & cereal in the morning because it’s something you can eat when you’re rushing (which is always, in my case).  When I’m desperate, I eat my cereal like chips & drink my milk separately. Oops!

5) Better Out, Than In – Finally, what’s really really really good about breakfast is that you get to fuel your system for the rest of the day and thanks to your full to the brim tummy, a bunch of diuretics, a new supply of fiber and lactose (if your system is intolerant), you get to relieve your system before you leave the house! Miniature rolls of tissue, anyone? ;)

Poopie Time with Rolls of Tissue

I know what you’re thinking right now: “OMG! A floating poop!”

Well, we hope you enjoyed our interpretation of Richard’s list ;) Don’t forget to follow him on Facebook, Twitter (@TalesfromtheTum), Instagram and Pinterest :)  Thank you too Richard for collaborating with us on this blog post :D

Finally! Here’s an obligatory “props organized neatly” shot inspired by Things Organized Neatly :) Ta-dahhh! *I feel like a grade school kid showing her work to her parents*

Googly Gooeys Five Signs That You're Clingy! 1) "You used to respond within ten seconds, now it takes you five minutes *sigh* 2) You're very demanding with time and attention, "You don't have time for me anymore" "Sigh. But we're always together!" 3) You can't do things by yourself "Where are you going today? May I join you? Please oh please?" 4) You're always paranoid about your relationship "He hasn't responded yet. Maybe he's mad at me or something" 5) Worst of all, you can't take a hint about how annoyingly clingy you are! "Why didn't you respond to my e-mail, tweet, dm, message on facebook, wlal post and comment on instagram?" Le sigh for clingy people.  The worst message I ever got was when I was on a minimoon (i.e. honeymoon jr.) and one of my wedding visitors texted me and because I wasn’t responding to her Facebook message.  She tried calling me and she also contacted my other friends asking for a decent explanation why I wasn’t replying.  Somewhere between wedded bliss and mostly harassed from all the wedding preparations plus the joys and pains of moving into a new home, I was so annoyed.  But it didn’t stop there.  When I got back, I received calls afterwards and messages on every social networking site that we’re connected.  I’m usually the type who forgives and tolerates these things (for years) but gahhh…someone just successfully reached my limit. In the end though, I know it’s my fault.  I don’t really have a middle ground when it comes to friendships.  I’m just either super kind and once abused, I will forever hide inside my shell and pretend to a non-living object just like a hermit crab ;)

P.S. Hmm…Seems like we’re addicted to lists of five. Hmm…Must be the number or the lay-out which calls for an odd-numbered list or the size of  the Googly Gooey characters which might be too tall for a list of four and too small beyond 5 ;) Anyhooz, here are more lists of five :D

2013 is proving to be such a busy busy year and just the other night, while taking a break from chasing one of our deadlines, we found ourselves laughing at videos of goats screaming like people at 3am in the morning –probably a sign of our sanity slowly fading away.   During times like these, we know that we’re in dire need of a good relaxing time outside of our workspace.

Last night, we went out for dinner with some friends at Grand Momma’s Kitchen.  The place is so homey and since I’m such a sucker for weathered wood , I took pictures of the place so that I can draw stuff from there.  I’m also a big fan of pumpkin soup one of my user names was “Miss Kalabasa” (i.e. Miss Pumpkin) so I was just happy to have my own cute bowl of thick, hot and spicy soup while surrounded with countryside interiors forgetting for a moment that I’m in the city  :)

Here’s the rest of our dinner plus some stuff from the pretty white shelf against the white wooden wall and white picket fence basket that sits on it  ❤ For those who are curious, Grand Momma’s Kitchen is located in 3rd Level, IL Terrazzo Mall
Tomas Morato Ave. Quezon City (here in the Philippines) :D

Our Favorites From Grand Momma's Kitchen

P.S. I don’t know if it’s just me but I really love keeping papers of where I test the shade of my watercolors.  They’re just effortlessly random and colorful.  It amuses me. Hehe.  Is there anyone out there who loves doing this too?

Googly Gooeys You Know You're a Bad Cook When... When you volunteer to cook... "May I cook for you today?" "Umm...Why don't we eat out? I'll treat ya!" Division of tasks at the kitchen: "I'll cook. Why don't you start microwaving the rest of the stuff?" "Oh okay." When you volunteer to cook...again... "Should I start cooking our dinner?" "Are you threatening me? Why do you have to rob me of my happiness and my right to good, edible food?" The bad cook's brutally honest food review: "Eww...The food here is really bad. It tastes like something I cooked!" "That's good! Knowing is half the battle!"

I’m a bad cook. I really am.  I mostly  microwave stuff.  Ponggo refuses to use the microwave.  He loves his food cooked just the real way.  He doesn’t care if it takes his beef curry 5 hours to cook or how much of a hassle it is to reheat his siopao by steaming it.  On the other hand, I’m fine with instant noodles, crackers, chocolates, chips & drive-thru’s.  I think I won’t survive a war.  Oh wait, I actually might since I’m contented with so-so tasting food or I can just hoard stuff from the chocolate section if there is news about a looming apocalypse.  (Wait, did you know that M&M’s was invented during the World War? They wanted to to prevent chocolates from melting so they coated it with sugar! *That’s me effortlessly veering from the topic as usual.*)

Ponggo is so specific with the taste of food he eventually learned to cook his own.  My friends & family can actually attest to his good cooking skills.  At home, he does the cooking while I umm..wash the dishes. :P  He has n types of soy sauce, chili and oil depending on the type of the food he cooks and if there’s ever something I bought to spice up my dish, that would be ketchup and salt. (Sounds gourmet! *sarcastic*)

I thought I was expert at microwaving stuff but recently, I burnt some microwave pop corn and today, when I volunteered to cook tapa–marinated beef from this side of the world.  He responded with “Are you threatening me?”

Googly Gooeys You Know You're a Bad Cook When (FB status)

Well, that Facebook status is a lie.  He doesn’t just cook it better than me.  I semi-burnt the tapa before in the hopes of caramelizing the edges.  Once I also accidentally burnt some cheese dog.  Judging by how people at hotdog stands make it easy, I really thought that no one can cook cheese dog the wrong way but alas, there I was, sitting in the corner and consuming my crisp, dark brown & super hot on the outside and still a bit cold on the inside cheese dog.

Googly Gooeys You Know You're a Bad Cook When (Twitter status)

My brief food review under 140 characters on Twitter

Lastly, several days ago, I was complaining to Ponggo about how bad the Mac & Cheese was at this certain resto.  First of all, the dish was bland overall and the choice of cheese was really uggghhhh.  I rarely complain about my food and if I do, then it must be really bad. (For the record though, you can rely on my personal dessert & chocolate reviews.  However, be warned about my bias towards dark chocolate and chocolates in general. Hehe.)

To sum it up, you know you’re a bad cook when people would go to great lengths just to avoid your cooking. ;)

Hugs, Kisses & XO Sauce,

Googly Gooeys Meanwhile Section DLSU-CSB Simplexity Exhibit

As I’ve mentioned in this post, I’ll be sharing with you some photos from the Simplexity Exhibit. If you’ve been following us on Twitter, you’ve probably come across our announcements about the art exhibit the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde Multimedia exhibit.

We got the chance to drop by the exhibit on its second day.  The proof is in the pudding  picture :)

Let me start off this post by sharing with you one of our favorite works by Risa Rodil entitled Book-wormed.   It must be the choice of colors, it must be the subject, the illustration style or the flow of the objects in the illustration, but overall, Ponggo & I were attracted to this piece ❤

Risa Rodil at the Simplexity Exhibit

Christmas means more gatherings and reunions with friends which means you’re more likely going to have your picture taken this time of the year save for your wedding and birthday probably.  ;)  Last week, I was reviewing our Christmas photo & I was wondering who this stranger was with her back at the camera.  She is gaining weight & she definitely needs some exercise!  Sadly, it was me.

I’m just so happy that after our recent trip, I only gained 200 grams (i.e. 0.44 pounds) according to the weighing scale. But the more important question is, how much did I gain since last year? :P Hehe. Anyway, while we’re all busy shedding those pounds away, here are some excuses we can use ;)

Googly Gooeys Alternate Excuses for Gaining Weight 1) "What's up with gravity?? Since when did it get stronger?" 2) "I think we need ot have our weighing scale repaired." "I think so too!" 3) "I should stop buying clothes that shrink too fast!" 4) "This is all water and I shall lose it when I decide to exercise & sweat someday" 5) "I've been typing the whole day! Doesn't that count as exercise?"

By the way, slowly but surely, we’ve been trying to build a website for all our graphics, illustration & photography projects. You can visit The Sago Project’s raw site here and Facebook page here.   We’ve babied the Googly Gooeys for far too long and it’s now time to give a new online life to what we’ve been working on behind the scenes throughout the years :) For now, our pictures shall bear The Sago Project watermarks until my manager Ponggo tells me otherwise :) Haha.

Here are more happy things slash pictures slash sources of inspiration from the trip.  If you’ve missed part 1, click here :)

Chalkboards in Hong Kong

Chalkboards are a thing of love! ❤ I don’t know how many photos of chalkboard menus I actually have.  Now, if anyone can point me to the nearest liquid chalk supplier, I will forever be grateful.

Pastel Pencils

Well, yes, you guessed it, I didn’t shop for lots of clothes because I was in an art material frenzy.  As a kid, my dream was that when I finally grow up and have a job, I will be able to buy myself all the paper products & art materials I wanted.   During the first two days of our trip, I went art shop hopping and fulfilled that dream.  I wasn’t able to sleep that night out of happiness.  Thanks to Ponggo too for helping me locate all the shops in his trusty (now crumpled) tourist map. Haha.  I stepped inside this huge art store and for a second there, I forgot what I really wanted to buy because I was just so overwhelmed with the choices in front of me!

Colorful Birds

I stopped briefly after beating the last few seconds of the pedestrian green light & saw this!  This just makes me rekindle my love for the fuchsia-lilac color scheme and my soft spot for characters with closed eyes.  Now, if I can only finally find the time to convince myself that it’s okay for Tipsy & Ponggo to close their eyes and not resort to putting sleeping masks on them when they’re asleep in some of the stories ;)

Weathered Dining Seats in Hong Kong

We had some yummy Char Siu Cheong Fun thanks to Ponggo’s cousin Rosy.  We walked around the area and we happened to pass by this resto which had weathered seats.  When Ponggo & I finally have a bigger home, I would love to have mismatched weathered Instagrammable seats too! ❤

Balls of Yarn

Yearning for Yarns:

These balls of yarn were a part of a window display.  Gahh.. I can’t remember the name of the store.  I instantly went into daydreaming mode.  This just makes me want to buy balls of yarn & turn them into colorful balls like these.  I actually think they’d make good table pieces, accents or centerpieces ❤
Cat Illustration : Ginger Cafe Latte

As in the previous post, I’m still bemused with black & white artworks.  I would always tell myself that one day, I’ll give time to creating artworks in black & white but I just always end up coloring things in.  I just love colors too much I guess.

Hong Kong Unar Coffee Shop

Lastly, if I had the time, I would probably go back to this place and check out the artsy cafe’s in this district!  Well, hope you enjoyed this edition of happy things.  ❤  You may check out the rest of our travel photos on The Sago Project :) Ponggo is now updating the album as I type! :)

XOXO,
Tipsy
