Annoying Commercial Jingles

Googly Gooeys Commercial Jingles The First Time You Hear It: "There's a new product! Interesting" The Second Time You Hear It: "The music's actually catchy! I can sing to this!" The Third Time You Hear It: "Seriously, how many times do I really have to listen to this?" After Hearing It N Times: "Why is this commercial jingle haunting me in the middle of the night?"

Commercial Jingles! Ahhhh!?

Last night (well, midnight actually), a commercial jingle kept playing inside my head while I was trying to finish something.  It’s not just your ordinary jingle, it’s a rap from a mobile company who has loads of money to buy all the spots on TV, radio and wherever else!  Well, it’s one thing to sell a product but seriously, how many times do I have to listen to this commercial jingle??  Actually, since there’s not much that I can do about it especially when I’m driving and stuck in traffic, I lip sync and tease my sister.  I have no choice!? I turn the radio off or switch it to another channel and voila, it’s playing there too.  Finally, when the radio’s not within my reach, it has invaded my mind and it’s forever on repeat as I helplessly try to concentrate on the task at hand.

Well, it’s not just this commercial.   There are commercial jingles from a decade ago that suddenly pop up inside my head too.  I don’t know why.  There are good ones which make me feel nostalgic: ♩♪ You wanna see what happens with a bag of Nips? ♫♬ .  It’s actually amazing that while interning for an ad agency, my classmates and I met the composer of this jingle from our childhood and got to sing it to her. (Oh gawd, did I just give away my age? Haha.)

Anyway, hope none of the commercials or commercial jingles are haunting you lately!  But if there is, do let me know.  Misery loves company ;)

Stop copying me!

“Stop copying me”, Ponggo would tell me.  One of my hobbies / purposes in life is to annoy him. ;)   Ponggo loves using my phone for games and once he’s done & the battery’s mostly drained, he gives it back to me and asks me to charge it for him.  Instead of  getting irritated, I just end up copying whatever he says then he gets up doing what he was initially asking me to do ;)

Big Gestures

Googly Gooeys Big Gestures That moment when you're talking to someone, you make a big gesture and you accidentally hit the person beside you

Big Gestures:

Well, there are different types of gestures: kind gestures, romantic gestures, iconic gestures then there are the big gestures that I make–the awkward kind. I end up hitting the people behind me or beside me. I usually end up accidentally swatting a stranger while walking backwards and talking to someone in a crowded mall. Why do I have the habit of walking backwards? I do not know but Ponggo has always been on the watch out and he has saved me so many times from hitting a random person, stepping on one’s foot or getting hit by someone’s luggage. Too bad there were a couple of times when I would make these huge gestures on the ice skating rink while talking to someone, I end up hitting someone on the face, making them fall effortlessly and unintentionally. I’m still working on it and there are times when I would sit on my hands so that I’d stop making these dangerous gestures.

The Googly Gooeys Saying I Know Right too much is annoying

I used to say “Awww…That’s so sad” all the time Ponggo asked me to change my expression since, according to him, it sounds annoying and a bit indifferent and shallow. I changed it to “Oh wow” and after saying it so many times, he said I sounded as if I’m not really amazed and that I’m just saying “Oh wow” to fill in the conversation. There was also a time when I was stuck with “Tunay?”
