Big Gestures:

Well, there are different types of gestures: kind gestures, romantic gestures, iconic gestures then there are the big gestures that I make–the awkward kind. I end up hitting the people behind me or beside me. I usually end up accidentally swatting a stranger while walking backwards and talking to someone in a crowded mall. Why do I have the habit of walking backwards? I do not know but Ponggo has always been on the watch out and he has saved me so many times from hitting a random person, stepping on one’s foot or getting hit by someone’s luggage. Too bad there were a couple of times when I would make these huge gestures on the ice skating rink while talking to someone, I end up hitting someone on the face, making them fall effortlessly and unintentionally. I’m still working on it and there are times when I would sit on my hands so that I’d stop making these dangerous gestures.

I used to say “Awww…That’s so sad” all the time Ponggo asked me to change my expression since, according to him, it sounds annoying and a bit indifferent and shallow. I changed it to “Oh wow” and after saying it so many times, he said I sounded as if I’m not really amazed and that I’m just saying “Oh wow” to fill in the conversation. There was also a time when I was stuck with “Tunay?”

(Tagalog of “Really?”) where he complained that I sounded as if I didn’t know anything or that I didn’t believe anything that anyone said. My oldest expression would probably be “Ay! Patay!” (i.e. somewhere between “I’m dead meat” or “You’re dead” depending on the context) which wasn’t really funny nor appropriate especially when we’re at the cemetery to pay our respects to our relatives who passed away.

Finally, I found myself saying, “I know right?” I found it convenient. Usually, Ponggo & I just end up restating each other’s sentences. Then he starts complaining that I use “I know right?” too much. In the end, I guess, (a) He just doesn’t really love using expressions & catch phrases (although he does have a slew of baby-sounding words for particular objects) (b) I have to come up with a better list of expressions and I have to consciously alternate its use or (c) He just has to live with whatever expression it is that I’m trying to use & abuse.

He Says She Says

Our house is such a mess right now.  He just love love loves leaving his stuff around the house. If he chooses to remove his shoes in one corner, then you’ll find it there for days. Then if he removes his socks near the bathroom, it will be there for days. If a receipt falls from the a shopping bag, the receipt will be on the floor until someone picks it up. These days, he’s into practicing his putting skills inside the house and at night, I have to be careful not to accidentally step on golf balls in the dark on my way to the bathroom.

When we just got married, I used to stay up late and lost weight just by cleaning the house.  When I finally gave up on my own obsessive-compulsiveness, I tried leaving the house messy for days and days until I can’t stand it, we’ll start cleaning the house again.

Then again, don’t get me wrong. I also have a fair share of mess inside the house. He hates it when I leave bubbles on the sink or when my art materials are scattered wherever. Then again, the difference between us is that I always try to put back stuff where it came from.  He hates it especially when he’s still in the middle of fixing reports or working on some mechanical or electronic stuff because he ends up having a hard time searching for all the tiny parts and things I’ve kept in random cabinets.

Organized chaos works for him in the sense that it may appear chaotic but he exactly knows where his stuff is (and I know of a lot of people who are into this too). I, on the other hand sort of subscribe to this thought that the state of the house is more or less a reflection of the state of my mind.  I can’t work when things are where they’re not supposed to be. 

I guess we’ll eventually find a middle ground (or I hope we will) but first, I hope I can find that pen I’ve been looking for for days now O_O

I don’t know how many times I’ve been through this cycle:

1) I find myself saying yes to a friend’s / ex-officemates’ request

2) I feel happy I’m helping them & that it’s another opportunity for me to learn new things & experiment with arts, props, pictures and colorful things I     love.

3) I hate myself for saying yes and ending up with a busier schedule (and losing sleep sometimes)

4) I hate the one who asked the favor for using and abusing me and only for getting in touch with me when they need something.

5) I promise myself that I will never say yes again or that I will at least learn to charge them & explain that my art may look like fun but it’s no joke and I also have bills to pay (Actually, the profile picture on my personal Facebook account says that now).

6) Go back to number 1 with more self-loathing.

I guess I find it hard to say no because I always tend to put myself in their shoes and automatically, the answer is of course, “Yes, I will not let you suffer and I shall help you”. Ponggo has been through this so many times with me.  I’m still learning how to say no not the passive-agressive way of I-shall-temporarily-pluck-you-out-of-my-friends-list-or-opt-never-to-talk-to-you-again. I’m still searching for some middle ground. Don’t get me wrong. Generosity goes a long long way but there’s a very fine line (or horse hair!) between being generous and being abused

A Gazillion Times
First of all, my source of happiness today is the fact that I’m finally able to include those colorful washi tapes as (part of my useless) props behind Tipsy! I don’t know what is it with washi tapes.  Staring at them makes me happy. (Me & my color fixations…) I think I always find consolation in the fact that my source of happiness is something that can’t be bought or sold. Sure I tend to buy colorful pens and dresses from time to time but taking a photo of something colorful or browsing colorful stuff on the internet makes me happy.

(Woops! I went to far with my unrelated intro. Anyway, going back to today’s cartoon…)

I noticed that sometimes, Ponggo & I don’t really have any problems it’s just that we end up having this awkward silence

from time to time because I always ask him to qualify his statements when I know for a fact that he’s not really good at explaining the abstract (i.e. his emotions–just like the cartoon above).  I read between the lines and analyze statements too much; a happy moment suddenly turns sour. Ehehehehe. Sorry!  Lesson learned, I shouldn’t allow my thoughts to multiply a gazillion times & let it get the best of me!

Isn’t it just amazing how the lines of communication also turn out to be the source of MIScommunication? As soon as

the line gets cut and you’re calling each other back, there’s a moment there when you want to call each other right away because (a) you were having a juicy conversation or (b) you just don’t want to let the other party think that you purposely hung up on him/her. Then there’s the panic of calling each other back which doesn’t help at all since you won’t be able to contact each other anyway.

Technology has definitely made our lives easier (What a cliche! Hehe) but with the convenience comes the pitfalls

Emoticons are Overrated – This is probably our most popular post ever. Last time I checked, it earned 20,000++ notes on Tumblr. O_O Which just proves how much people’s hearts are broken each day thanks to the absence of a colon & a close parenthesis

A Dummy’s Guide to Emoticons - During the dawn of the texting era, adults would always ask me what those random symbols at the end of the sentence meant. Was it a curse or a code. Speaking of adults, let me just share with you how proud I am of my grandmother. She’s the coolest grandma ever. She owns a Samsung Galaxy Tab. She knows how to work different phones and since she can’t walk around that much, she always asks her yaya (caretaker) to take pictures of the family for her. She would also text or call me on my birthday & she learned how to text before my mom did I love you Lola Ming

The Two Sides of Texting – We’ve all been through this. It’s so convenient to give “K” as a reply and it’s also annoying to receive it. Well, that’s just one of the issues tackled in this cartoon.

Waiting for a Reply - The beauty of texting is that we get to drop anyone a message anytime.  The downside of having a suspended conversation is, someone is left hanging in the air. There’s always this awkward moment when your heart sinks and you get paranoid while waiting for an important reply.
